Pillow Flying Artillery
(Captain Wm. Miller's Battery)
1st Tennessee Light Artillery
Battery "K"
On these pages you'll get a glimpse of a different form of military I've served in... Of
course this is different than actual military service considering that (hopefully) nobody
gets injured or dies.  But, War Between The States (AKA Civil War) Reenactors are
considered to be a standing militia... probably by some bleeding heart liberal!

Pretty much this is going to just be a place where I can display some of my photos.
Perhaps I'll get around to putting up more useful Reenactor information at some point.

It is an enjoyable hobby for a history nut like me... I just wish I had more time to devote
to it.  I do hope you enjoy these pages.

I have been a WBTS Reenactor since 1998.  My impression is that of an Artillery Soldier.  I
am a member of Miller's Pillow Flying Artillery Battery, 1st Tenn. Light Artillery. With Miller's
Battery I participated in numerous events, including Old Clinton, Resaca, Chickamauga,
Greensboro (Kolb's Farm), and Waynesboro, Georgia, and Aiken, South Carolina.

The Gun-owner quit reenacting, and retired his Mountain Howitzer
(Bertha) to his shed
where it remained for the better part of 9 years. During this time, I kept Miller's Battery alive,
so to speak, with a pair of Coehorn Mortars (
Sarah and Rachel). While this is an historically
inaccurate impression of Miller's Battery, we were able to keep it alive and active. Smaller
events let us field the Mortars, which is fine by us. The smaller events are a lot more fun!

When our gun-owner first quit, I joined the 5th Georgia Artillery. After a year or so we left
that outfit and formed the 32nd Georgia Artillery.  Events we attended were Greensboro
(Kolb's Farm), Millen (Buckhead Creek), and Manassas, Georgia, and Aiken and Broxton
Bridge, South Carolina. Things kind of fell apart with the 32nd, so once again I found myself
looking for an Artillery unit to call "home." -- The 32nd, I'm glad to say, has survived the
rough times and is again active and growing.

In 2003 I found "home" with MacBeth's South Carolina Light Artillery (Boyce's Battery).
These are a great bunch of guys who have always made me feel very much at home with
them. After 5 years, I finally joined MacBeth as a paid member.

I don't have very many opportunities to participate in events thanks to work duties and
responsibilities, but I do try to make it to the Battle of Aiken every year.  Since 1998 I've only
missed one Aiken event.

In March of 2010 my son and I bought the Mountain Howitzer (
Bertha) from the original gun
owner. In the horse-trading that took place, Sarah was a part of the deal, so he now has
her.

Click on the links below to see some photos from different events.  I don't have a lot of
photos because there isn't much time for picture taking while manning the guns, and I don't
have a period camera.
