On 4 July 2008 Confederate Reenactors From North Carolina (many of whom are
descendants of Confederate Soldiers) begin a Memorial March of  "Pickett's
Charge" beginning at exactly 1300hrs, 145 years to the minute after the famous
ill-fated charge across that mile long field. Amongst the Reenactors participating in
the march is a descendant of General Pettigrew. At the same time, Reenactors
from Virginia begin the march from the Virginia Monument
Below, Confederate Renactors from Virginia and North Carolina approach the Bloody Angle. In the
background you can see the Virginia Monument - the origin of the march for the Virginians. When the
Confederates approached the Bloody Angle, everyone cheered... Confederate and Union, Reenactors
and Spectators alike. It was a very moving experience for many of those present.

This field, the site of Longstreet's Assault, otherwise known as "Pickett's Charge", was a very humbling
site to behold, when you stand there and realize that on 4 July 1864, all those Confederates stood in
their respective lines and knew they had to cross that deadly field, in clears sight of Big Round Top
and the artillery amassed at the Bloody Angle. It amazes me there were any survivors at all.
