The Second Cold War? Essay by Michael A. Smith

"Call no man happy who is not dead." -- Euripides
Every generation talks about "troubled times." Indeed, each generation has its own share of
challenges, obstacles, and "troubles" to overcome. Here in the United States, every generation
has faced its challenges, obstacles and troubles and, for the most part, successfully overcome
the adversity they faced. These challenges come in many forms, mostly of a societal nature,
but often they take the form of an armed conflict.
My Pepe (Maternal Grandfather) enlisted in the U.S. Army so he could get his citizenship. He
was sent to France and fought in the 77th Division during WWI. Although he claimed to be one
of the survivors of the "Lost Battalion", I've not found any documented proof, but the records
from that time aren't the best in the world. For his generation WWI was "troubled times." My
Paternal Grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. I also had an uncle that served in
the U.S. Army during that time. These were deemed the "Greatest Generation" for their
sacrifices and selfless service to win a war against the Mussolini and Nazi Regimes and Imperial
Japan. It seems that the "war to end all wars" was greatly overshadowed by the Second World
War. Both presented unique challenges and obstacles, both were suffered through bravely
with great sacrifices made by all concerned.
According to political correctness, these were the last wars the U.S. has fought in. Every other
war since then are considered to be "conflicts" not "war." I personally think this point of view is
pure crap. I agree with General Douglas MacArthur's view: "when one drop of American blood
is spilt on foreign soil, it's war." Ask my uncles who fought in Korea (the "Forgotten War") if that
was a conflict or a war, and they'll tell you it was most definitely a war. Ask anyone who fought
in Vietnam if that was a "police action", a conflict, or a war, and they'll be just as fast to tell you
they were at war! Even the "Cold War" isn't considered a war... but then, it's not even
considered a conflict, even though it was highlighted by the various conflicts or wars as I've
mentioned above.
Even today, the so-called "Global War on Terrorism" being conducted not only in Afghanistan
and Iraq, but also other areas of the world, is considered to be a conflict, not a war. However,
our young military men and women are spilling their blood every day... and that makes it WAR!
In the aftermath of 11 September 2001, it's not too difficult to think of these days as "troubled
times." However, most people don't even have a clue as to just how bad things are getting, and
what the potential for the future of our Great Nation holds.
We have many declared and potential enemies throughout the world. I remember when the
Cold War ended, and the Berlin Wall came down. Not long after that, the Soviet Union
dissolved and suddenly we were great "friends" with the former Soviet Republics. Instantly the
world was finally at "peace." But was it really? I said it back then, and I'll say it again. Instead
of having one giant enemy, we now have numerous little enemies. These enemies aspire to
prominence in the world scheme. Enemies who will continue to prosecute Cold War tactics
against the United States, and now more than ever, I see it clearly playing out.
Russia and China have long been enemies. But the old saying goes, "the enemy of my enemy
is my friend," and thus it is with Russia and China. Here we have two nuclear countries, one
with technical ability and resources, and the other with a growing economy and more
man-power than any other country in the world can produce. What I foresee is this:
China and Russia, with aspirations toward becoming prominent players in the world, are
forming, or have formed, an alliance. This alliance has one goal: to undermine the United
States, and to remove it as a "superpower" and the Islamic-Fascists are playing into their hands
nicely. The Islamic-Fascists clearly seek the destruction of the United Sates as well as Israel --
Ain't it just peachy how everyone lumps the US and Israel into one nice little cozy package?
Now we find ourselves fighting a war on multiple fronts.
These Islamic-Fascist nations, including Syria and Iran (among others) as well as North Korea
and Venezuela, are but pawns of the growing Chinese-Russian Alliance. Russia and China
don't yet have the capabilities to jump the US in open armed conflict, but using Cold War
tactics, they are covertly attacking the United States in any way possible, while avoiding a
toe-to-toe armed conflict. They are chipping away at the US resources, economy, and the
resolve of the average American citizen, who remains fully in the dark due to the feces he is fed
by our corrupt and gluttonous government and the prostituting media.
By continuing to keep the US attention focused on Afghanistan, the Taliban, Iraq, al-Qa'ida,
Iran, and North Korean, the Russio-Chinese Alliance is free to move against the United States,
at least covertly. This alliance doesn't give a crap about the Middle East, North Korea, or
Afghanistan. Russia has all the oil it needs within the borders of its country. While there is no
love lost between Russia and the Islamic-Fascists, the Russians are not being targeted, which, I
surmise, is because the Russians are egging the Islamic-Fascists on in their endeavours
against the US. Osama bin Laden feels like he is responsible for toppling one superpower (the
Soviet Union) and is confident he can topple another (the US).
As the Russio-Chinese Alliance continues to build up its strategic and conventional forces, it will
also continue to strengthen its financial influence across the globe. There is the very real
threat that eventually Chinese military forces will go on the march against us wherever we may
be... egged on by Russia. As we saw in Korea, the Chinese don't need massive amounts of
munitions and overwhelming firepower. China has the manpower to just keep right on coming.
In a traditional military slug fest, where two opposing armies face each other toe-to-toe and slug
it out, the Chinese tactic is to only arm the first few ranks. When the first rank falls, the next in
line picks up the weapons and keeps on going. We cannot withstand such a face-to-face
confrontation with the Chinese military, and they know it!
More and more of our national financial market is owned by foreign countries. More and more
foreign money is buying our government, our land, our businesses, our resources. Japan,
after its defeat in WWII swore that while they could not beat us militarily, they would do so
economically. Just look at how much of the US they own now! China is following suit... just look
at how much their money affects our Presidential elections and Governmental policies! Now
the Islamic-Fascists, the North Koreans, the Chinese and the Russians conspire to bring us
down. None of them can take us on militarily, so their goal is to break us financially. To involve
us in so many little "conflicts" across the globe, that we go bankrupt... and our corrupt
government is assisting the enemy to bring about this end.
All things ebb and flow... all things go through periods of growth and decline. Great Britain was
once a world power ("the sun never sets on the British Empire"), as were France and Spain. All
have become mere shadows of their former glory... some are now just insignificant points on a
map. Many times I've heard the US compared to Rome. I've heard it said that the US is the
Rome of our times. This is bullshit, unless we compare the political histories and similarities of
the two Republics. Even a quick scan of the history of the Roman Empire will reveal that its
decline began with the corruption of its politicians. One need not look very hard to discern the
corruption of our own government.
The US has been in decline for quite some time now, but it is even more obvious today. Our
nation is dependent upon foreign nations for much of our livelihood. As previously noted, much
of our national financial market is owned by foreign countries. Militarily, our government
refuses to prosecute a war as a war, but instead wants to be nice about it... Winning the war is
not the goal, political correctness is. Without care or thought to the danger our troops are
subjected to because of it. The politicians send our troops off to fight a war, then take away
their ability to fight it!
Part of General George S. Patton's Normandy Invasion Speech:
"Men, this stuff we hear about America wanting to stay out of the war,
not wanting to fight, is a lot of bullshit. Americans love to fight - traditionally.
All real Americans love the sting and clash of battle. When you were kids,
you all admired the champion marble player; the fastest runner; the big league
ball players; the toughest boxers. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate
a loser. Americans despise cowards. Americans play to win - all the time. I
wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why
Americans have never lost, never will lose a war, for the very thought of losing
is hateful to an American."
What has happened to Americans? When looking at the US today, it seems that Patton was
talking about a completely different country. The media, for the most part, is doing a
tremendous job for our enemies. Hell, it seems the major political parties are doing a
tremendous job for our enemies. What happened to the attitude Americans had back in WWII?
Where is the fire in the gut and spit in the eye that Americans had back then? General William
T. Sherman said it best: "War is hell." Why, then, do our politicians and media conglomerates
insist on trying to make war "nice"? The purpose of war is to kill people, break things and, as
Clausewitz wrote, "war therefore is an act of violence to compel our opponent to fulfill our will."
Our men and women in uniform are all volunteers. Each and every one of them knew when
they enlisted what the risks were. Especially in today's world, they all know that there is a very
good chance they will see combat, and that some of them will be killed or wounded. Yet they
volunteered nonetheless. I salute our troops, wherever they may be, whatever job they may be
doing. They represent all that is best in humanity, and in America. Our troops are not the
problem, they and our Veterans are our "National Treasure."
The problem rests with our government. Is it too late for the US? Hell no! If we, as a nation,
would just get off our asses, put aside our petty differences and band together, we could
reform our government. That will never happen, of course. The government and media are
doing everything in their power to keep us divided, mostly by keeping racism an issue in every
aspect of life, from the judicial system to Affirmative Action. Race-baiters like Al Sharpton,
Jessie Jackson and the media are keeping racism alive in America. So long as we are at each
others' throats because of racial nonsense, we will never unite against our government. Julius
Caesar's policy of "divide and conquer" is being well implemented by our government, and the
media has bought fully into it.
Only if we unite against our government will we bring about change within our government.
Only if our government will change will we, as a nation, be able to withstand the new threats we
face in the world. Only if we stand strong, will we be able to emerge victorious in the wars that
we now face. The "War on Terror" is just the first "conflict" of the Second Cold War.
"... one Nation, under God, Indivisible..."
It's high time we start living that ideal, or we shall truly know Troubled Times!
